With so many challenges facing us each day, we need to find a way to protect and heal our inner selves. We are bombarded daily with media reports about the surge in Covid cases and deaths. The stats on deaths, hospitalizations and infections are displayed on news media minute by minute parallel with the stock market. We hear about the heartbreak of families losing their loved ones to this treacherous disease. We are frightened that our condos will collapse due to inadequate structures. The news media terrorizes us with reports of hate crimes, shootings, and editorials that our democracy is on the brink of disaster.
We are living in the unknown, along with rapid mood swings in the political arena. School begins this week with parents on the verge of nervous breakdowns, not knowing whether to send their children to school, as masks are not mandatory in some states. Teachers and school staffers are twisting in the wind with fears of becoming infected. It feels like the world has lost its balance and our inner selves have been severely affected by the paranoia and consequences that go along with the way things are. What are we to do about it? How can we overcome things we have no control over? It’s imperative that we learn to protect and heal our inner selves to survive what feels like Armageddon.
Hold On! The sky is not falling! We will get through this! There have been many disasters and hardships our predecessors have conquered, but for most of us, this feels like nothing we have ever encountered. Let’s hang in there with courage, faith and hope. Do your part, not just for yourselves, but for all of fellow mankind. This is the time to think of others as well as yourself. The more generosity of spirit you project, the better you will feel. This is the best medicine for healing your inner self. Remember—we’re in this together!
“It is better to light one small candle than to curse the darkness.” Eleanor Roosevelt
