Pamela Anne Glassman Education Center
at the Mental Health Association of Southeast Florida

Pamela Ann Glassman was considered a “wizard” therapist by John Bradshaw for whom she worked for more than five years at his center in Los Angeles. She was considered “an angel” to those who knew her both professionally and personally. Pam graduated from the University of Missouri with an MSW in 1985 and accrued a PhD in Psychology in 1991. Her work was considered by her allied professionals, colleagues and clients as extraordinary. Yet today, her clients still maintain that the work they did with her was not just healing, but transformational.

Pam suffered interminably for more than ten years with Bipolar I Disorder until she leaped to her death in 1998 when she was 34 years old. She continues to be a legend in her field and we celebrate her life and work to give some meaning to her death. Her mother, Joan Childs, LCSW, wrote the book, Why Did She Jump? My Daughter’s Battle with Bipolar Disorder to chronicle Pam’s struggle with this insidious disease until her death and the family’s loss and grief. It is truly a story of insight and understanding into the shadows of mental illness.

The Pamela Ann Glassman Education Center at the Mental Health Association of Southeast Florida is named in her honor as a tribute to her work and her legacy of providing help and hope.
