Celebrating 47 Years Psychotherapy 1978-2025
Join Joan as she reflects on her 47-year journey as a psychotherapist, announcing her retirement in March 2025. Discover her transition to life and relationship coaching, along with plans for continued engagement through writing, speaking, and sharing wisdom. A heartfelt message of gratitude to clients and mentors, celebrating the impact of personal growth and healing. Everything in life has a beginning, a middle, and an end. Now is my time to step down and end an incredible career as a psychotherapist for individuals, couples, and families since 1978. In making this decision, you must know it took a lot of time, consideration, and self-reflection to make this choice. It was not without difficulty, accompanied by fear, anxiety, faith, and hope. I am both happy and sad to announce that I will retire my license as of March 31, 2025.
My Swan Song
We know that nothing lasts forever. Change is inevitable. After forty-seven years of an extraordinary career in private practice, I am choosing to make some personal and professional changes in my life. I guess you can say that at 85, I am re-inventing myself or redefining what I do. Although not required, I decided to be transparent to all my clients and social media buddies. I have chosen to use whatever time I have left on the planet to continue to write, coach, speak, relax, and play. Therefore, I am informing you of my decision to terminate my private practice.
Life and Relationship Coach
Those of you whom I have had the great pleasure of being your therapist can still work with me but under my coaching certification. This is true for all new clients who have yet to begin. Not being licensed as a social worker will no longer allow me to utilize health insurance or maintain malpractice insurance. My fees will remain the same, and payment will be self-pay. My website will no longer post counseling services. However, blog posts will continue, as will books and events. I will post podcasts that I am featured on, along with television appearances, videos, and speaking engagements. I will continue posting on all social media sites so you can keep up with my work as it unfolds. Hopefully, I will remain useful, helpful, and supportive for all who want and need my knowledge, expertise, and wisdom with both my personal and professional experience.
Life can take many things away from us. We can lose loved ones, money, marriages, jobs, homes, health, custody battles, and more. However, the one thing that can never be taken away from us is the knowledge and experience we have acquired. That remains until we either lose our minds or life. Hopefully, I will live with what I have learned and practiced until my retirement is forever.
You have no idea what you all have meant to me. My life’s work has been the core of my existence along with my family, friends and relationships, as well as my own healing and growth. I believe all those things make up happiness. Not unlike Frank Sinatra, I too have regrets, perhaps more than a few. All this, plus having a purpose and passion has been my mantra throughout my life, only I didn’t give it a title until I was old enough to see what really matters.
Thank you all for having faith and belief in me to be your change agent and help you heal your wounds and become the persons you were intended to be. Most of my mentors have passed, but their work, support, and teachings will be with me forever. I am so grateful to have had the pleasure of knowing you, working with you, and making you part of the fabric of my life. I wish you all what you wish for yourselves.
With love and deep gratitude,
Joan
