Announcing the Release of My Two Books: Do You Hate the One You Love and Why Did She Jump
I am thrilled to share my first book review: DO YOU HATE THE ONE YOU LOVE? Strategies to Heal and Save Your Relationship. It was released on February 11, 2025 along with my other revised book, WHY DID SHE JUMP? My Daughter’s Battle with Mental Illness, A Broken Healthcare System and My Ultimate Search for Peace. Both were a labor of love.
DO YOU HATE THE ONE YOU LOVE?
DO YOU HATE THE ONE YOU LOVE? Strategies to Heal and Save Your Relationship is a culmination of my professional experiences over the last 47 years of practice. I counseled individuals and couples over these years, thus understanding the reasons why most relationships fail; that is due to the unresolved wounds and traumas of abuse, neglect, or abandonment during childhood. Growing up in dysfunctional families that interfere with our personal growth and development stunts our ability to learn how to make good choices.
Have you ever noticed that your choices in life seemed to result in the same patterns, most of which were destructive to your well-being? When you finally realized that you unconsciously contributed to this, you began to understand that it wasn’t your fault. You didn’t have what you needed during your years of early development. This resulted in looking and finding familiarity instead of healthy choices. The pain and anguish that lived inside you damaged the spirit of your authenticity and helped to create a survival suit covering your essence.
I saw people and couples who all had the same patterns. The content was different, but they all suffered from never having a secure attachment, the essential ingredient needed to grow up. Addiction, looking for love in all the wrong places, shame, and self-doubt hampered their ability to self-actualize. Instead, they grew up never knowing who they really are, the worst tragedy of tragedies. What I do is me; for that I came (Gerard Manley Hopkins) is our purpose in life: to be what you were intended to be. The stifling of dysfunctional parenting impaired this process. That’s why most people and couples feel stuck. Again, it’s not your fault. However, we can’t go our entire lives blaming our parents. It’s time we take responsibility for our lives and actions. If you want to change, you must be determined!
This is what DO YOU HATE THE ONE YOU LOVE? is all about. Purchase it at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and any other bookstore of your choice. You can read the view by Kirkus on this link: https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/joan-e-childs/do-you-hate-the-one-you-love/
WHY DID SHE JUMP?
WHY DID SHE JUMP? My Daughter’s Battle with Mental Illness, A Broken Healthcare System and My Ultimate Search for Peace is a memoir about my personal tragedy of losing a daughter. Originally published in 2014, I chose to update and revise it as it ran out of print, but the world has changed since 2014, so I wanted to add substance and information that would help other parents with their loss and suffering. Losing a child is every parent’s worst nightmare. Losing a child through suicide has a cascade of emotions that are indescribable. I address these stages of loss and grief in this book. I learned that by helping others, I was helping myself.
Anyone who has suffered the loss of a child through suicide would gain help and understanding of the grieving process as experienced by me, a mother, grandmother, psychotherapist, author, and speaker. The book is now released and can be purchased on Amazon.
